Why was the Toleration Act passed?
- To find a compromise for Tory and Anglican demands for Anglican supremacy in England.
What were the terms of the Toleration Act?
- Dissenters were exempt from punishment if they swore allegiance to the Anglican Church under the 1678 Test Act.
- However, they were not expected to attend Anglican Church, and so groups like the Quakers were allowed to grow.
