IGCSE Chemistry - Particles

?

States of Matter;

  • Solid - the particles are closely packed together, and don't move..

  • Liquid - gaps form between the particles as they move..

  • Gas - particles are further apart, with almost no attraction between each other..

Inter-Conversions;

  • Solid -> Liquid = Melting

  • Solid -> Gas = Sublimation

  • Liquid -> Solid = Freezing

  • Liquid ->Gas = Boiling

  • Gas -> Liquid = Condensation

Diffusion;

Diffusion is the spreading out of particles in a gas or liquid..

Diffusion can be proved using the following method:

If the lid is removed, the brown colour of the bromine diffuses upwards until both gas
