electricity is made by a hydroelectric dam that holds water that is allowed through turbines which is turned that is connected to generators that produce electricity

advantages:

-no pollution

-provide an immediate response to an increase demand for electricity

-no fuel costs and minimal running costs

disadvantages:

-has big impact on environment;flooding of valley leads to the rotting of vegetation and loss of habitat for species;whole villages can be evacuated and flooded by dam

-initial costs are high

-not practical/economical to connect to national grid

hydroelectric power stations are put in remot valleys to reduce their impact on humans
