Human Rights Act 1998
It lets you defend your rights in UK Courts and compels public organisations including govt, police and local councils. So everyone is treated equally with fairness dignity and respect.
It may be used by every person in the UK and even companies and organisations.
Based on European Covention on Human Rights - Give further effect to rights and freedoms guarateed under the ECHR.
It means:
- Judges must read and give effect to other laws in a way which is compatible with ECHR
- It is unlawful for public authority to act in a way which is compatible with ECHR
