The 2 main official sources of crime data:

Police recorded crime & National Crime Surveys

Crime statistics are socially constructed- we can prosuce reasonable and reasonably reliable estimates of levels and trends.

Composed of categories of crime outlined in Home Office Counting Rules (notifiable offences). Violence against person, sexual offences, robbery, burglary, theft etc.
