how to categorize texts: a step-by-step guide :)

1. Jot down at the top of your paper some of the possible categories you can include:

  • narratives
  • sentence types: declarative, imperative, exclamative & interrogative.
  • types of nouns
  • pragmatics
  • graphology
  • phonology
  • discourse structure
  • lexical field

2. Go through each text and highlight and annotate everything, using the above points as guidelines for doing this. You only have 15 minutes to do this, so be quick! After this, quickly do a spider diagram of which texts will make up each of your 4-5 groups (ie group 1 = texts a, d, f) there should be 3 or 4 texts
