How is the independence of judiciary secured?

Independence important in a liberal democracy. Decisions shouldn't be influenced by government and should be able to function freely.
Constitutional Reform Act (CRA) 2005 help independence of judicary from legislature and executive - limited the judicial role ofthe Lord Chancellor, established a new Supreme Court separate from HoL and removed Law lords from Parliament.
