  • some socialists and pacifists did not support the war but there was not many of them
    • George Bernard Shaw wrote "common sense about the war" but this did not sell many copies - 25,000
    • the leader of the labour party Ramsay MacDonald did not support the war so he had to reign
  • most people supported conscription when it started in 1916
    • only 50MPs voted…
