• March 1946 Iron Curtain speech-Churchill made a speech in America “an Iron Curtain has descended across the continent”. He meant that Europe had been divided into Communist Eastern Europe (with the Soviet Union taking over Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Romania, Bulgaria, East Germany) capitalist Western Europe.
• At first the Iron Curtain was imaginary but later became a thousand mile fence stopping any escape from East to West.
