The Liberals quickly reversed the Taff Vale decision with the Trade Disputes Act which enabled peaceful picketing and provided immunity for prosecution for strikes. However the Liberlas had taken this initiative and Labour had little independent influence. A bill proposed by Macdonald to help the unemployed was not taken up by the government.
