How far did medieval beliefs hinder medical treatment?

I think that the question is asking me how different beliefs hindered the treatment that developed throughout the medieval era. In this answer, I will include how the church hindered further development for the medical treatment. I will also include how the authority of certain people, including famous doctors, such as Galen and Hippocrates, affected how the people reacted to the discoveries of these physicians.

The beliefs of the medieval people were a major encumbrance to how fast the medical treatment developed, this was partially due to the church and the restrictions set by it.

The first point I would like to make is that many people believed in the 4 humours and the theories of Hippocrates.

I can prove this because the theory was believed for a long period of time, and some of his ideas still influence medical treatment today, despite dying 2,500 years ago. Many people did not think they needed to know more about the human body other than what they had been taught. Furthermore, because the theory was established by one of the most advanced doctors of the epoch people did not have the authority to argue against what Hippocrates inaugurated. Hippocrates was also backed up by various other people, increasing his influence in medicine.

This point complicated further advancement of the medical treatment because many people did not discover more about the human body meaning that now new innovations were created. People did not have sufficient authority to revolt against the great doctors and therefore the medical theories did not alter.

Another point I consider making is that the church prevented further explorations into the anatomy in the middle ages.

This statement is supported by the substantiation that the church thwarted dissections after the discoveries of Galen, who stated that ‘the body is so perfect that
