• Once the suitors have all left Odysseus tells Telemachus to hide all the weapons under the pretence that they have been damaged by the fire and he wants to avoid the suitors turning on each other
  
• Telemachus tells Eurycleia to keep the maids in their quarters and that Odysseus will accompany him with a light
• Eurycleia locks the door then Odysseus and Telemachus store the weapons while Athene provides a light which Telemachus marvels at, Odysseus tells him to go to bed
• Penelope comes down from her apartment looking beautiful, a chair is drawn up for her while the remains of the feast are cleared
• Melantho abuses Odysseus again who retorts warning her tha Odysseus might come back
• Penelope rebukes Melantho, she says she wants to question Odysseus and asks Eurynome to bring a chair and rug for him
