ENDOTHERM - an animal able to maintain a constant body temperature.

ECTOTHERM - an animal whose body temperature fluctuates with that of the environment.

HYPOTHALAMUS - the part of the brain which co-ordinates thermoregulation.

HEAT GAIN CENTRE - the part of the hypothalamus which co-ordinates responses which reduce heat loss and increase body temperature.

HEAT LOSS CENTRE - the part of the hypothalamus which co-ordinates responses which reduce body temperature.

VASODILATION - relaxation of muscles in arterioles allowing increase
