Holmes & Rahe (1970) investigated whether scores on the Social Readjustment Scale (SRRS) correlated with the onset of illness.
Procedure:
2,500 American Male Sailors were given the SRRS scale to assess how many life events they had experienced in the past 6 months. A total life change unit score (stress score) was calculated for each participant by adding up their LCU's of each life event.
