Hoflings study on obedience

Am: Hoflings wanted to see how nurses would act if ordered to go against thier professional standard.

procedure: there was placebos (consisting of glucose)placed in 22 psychiatric wards in the USA in both public and private hospitals. the box of astrofen indicated taht it consisted of 5mg and that the daily dosage was 10mg.

 whilst the nurse was on duty a doctor smith- who was a confederate telephoned and told her to administer 20mg of astrofen to a his patient mr.jones in the psychiatric ward as he was running late and the patient needed the capsules. he said that he would come to observe his patient in 10mins and also sign the authorisation forms. 

a real doctor stood near by and observed the actions of the nurse.
