30th January 1933 Hitler was legally appointed Chancellor.

27th February 1933 The Reichstag building was destroyed by a massive fire.

28th February 1933 The decree "For the Protection of People and State" was passed, giving the government sweeping powers to suspend civil liberties and freedoms.

5th March 1933 Nazis gained only 44% of the vote (288 seats) in the last ever Reichstag elections, failing to win the overall majority of votes as expected.
