Hitler's Consolidation of power

January 1933

Hitler is now cancellor but he is in a very weak position. The obstacles he stoll has to overcome are the army, army generals, coommunists, courts, the German people, President Hindenburg, the Media, Nazi Leadders, no majority, the Reichstag, the SA, the State Governments and Trade Unions.

February 1933

Marinus van der Lubbe was found inside the Reichstag and he confesses to starting the fire. As he was a Dutch Communist, Hitker claimed he was part of a Communist plot to take over Germany and persuaded Hindenburg (who hated Communism) to pass on Emergency Decree to deal with the Communist threat. The SA and ** imprison 4,000 Communists without trial and put them into improvised concentration camps. This would make it difficult for the Communists to get more votes in the March election. Hitler got 44% of the vote in the March election - with no majority he would struggle to pass any laws.
