The election.

After Emperor Puyi's abdication in febuary 1912, it was uncleur who should be left to govern chine. It was between two main people: Sun yat sen and Yuan Shakai.

Sun realised that until an offical election could be held the country was only to be powered by someon with a "rifle" meaning that who ever had the biggest and strongest army would be the next leader of China. The only force at this time big enough was Yuan's Beiyang army. With this in mind, although Sun was more popular than Yuan, he made an agreement that Yuan should lead the country, until an offical election could be organised.
