Coal Mining - Advances in Technology

There are many reasons for coal mines becoming safer, and largely it is down to advances in the technology used or even the introduction of such technology:

• Lamps - The Davy Safety Lamp was introduced which delt with the issue of using candles to some extent (many mine owners were not willing to buy them). The candles could cause an explosion with some of the gases down in the mines, whereas the lamp was covered.
