Trials:
- Used 2 types of trial
- 1: relied on local community - trial by jury
- 2: based on belief in G-d - trial by ordeal
Trial by Local Jury:
- Jury made up of men who knew the accuser and accused
- Both people have their version of events + jury decided on verdict
- If there was no clear evidence (e.g. an eyewitness) jury would decide based on their knowledge of the individuals
- If they believed the accuser, they swore an oath that the accused was guilty
- Oath taking = compurgation
