DID HENRY VIII MEET HIS AIMS?

To establish his status as a prominent European Monarch via marriage

Henry married his brother Arthur's widow, Catherine of Aragon, and was anxious to conclude the marriage as quickly as possible due to her mistreatment. Henry's councillors believed that marriage would deflect him from political matters and enable them to conduct councillor business. They married on 11 June 1509.

Henry married Anne of Cleves in 1540. His first encounter with her coincided with a meeting with Charles and Francis. Henry feared they were conspiring to invade England and believed that the marriage with Anne, accompanied by another attempt
