  • Chambers of the heart contract in a coordinated fashion. If they dont, this would lead to inefficient pumping.
  • While both atria and ventricles are relaxing, internal volume increases and blood flows into the heart from the major veins. Blood flows into the atria, then through the open atrioventricular valves and into the ventricles. This is called diastole.
