Schema A plan of action stored in the memory, These make it easy for a child to respond to situations.
Assimilation - faced with a new situation, a child uses an existing schema. Choosing the schema is called assimilation.
Accomodation - adjusting an existing schema to fit - accomodation
Examples
Assimilation A child is given a large plastic ball, the child might chooseo to grasp it. Child using existing knowledge, assimilation.
Accomodation - The child's one handed gasp might now work with a large, slippery plastic ball and so the child might therefore try to grasp the ball with two hands. adjusting schema, accodation
