Sanitisation:-

Sanitisation only kills some germs, for example:

1) UV Cabinet (any item can go in)
2) Barbicide (dark blue liquid)
3) Sanitisation sprays

Sterilisation:-

Sterilisation kills all germs, for example:

1) Autoclave (no plastic, only metal)
2) Glass bead steriliser (only metal, heat kills bacteria)
3) Milton (liquid based product, mixed with water, for sponges, plastic spatulas)

Hygiene:-

Hygiene is important because you are working with the public. No hygiene = cross infection.

Cross infection: when someone has bacteria, they pass that onto someone else. This can be by touch, breath, tools, towels, etc...

Secondary infection: a client already has an infection, then you put a second infection there too.

1) Clean the area before and after every client.
2) Wash hands before and after treatment.
3) Use a hand sanitiser.
4) Don't use the same tools and equipment, e.g. use fresh towels.
5) Dispose of waste properly. Bins should always have a liner, bodily fluids (e.g. blood) need to go in a COSHH bin.
6) Cuts and abrasions need to be covered. You may need to wear gloves.
