Health is a state of physical, mental and social wellbeing not merely the absence of disease.

Disease - a condition of part of an organ or a system resulting from various causes. A departure from health

Pathogen - a microorganism that causes harm or disease, 

To maintain good health

  • Eat a balanced diet
  • exercise regularly
  • reduce stress
  • seek medical help for physical or mental difficulties
  • avoid smoking
  • control of alcohol consumption

Communicable disease - illnesses which result from infection by microorganism and are contagious

  • Tuberculosis
  • ebola
  • chlamydia 
  • aids
  • influenza 

Non-communicable disease - illnesses which result in unhealthy lifestyles and sometimes inheritance 

  • Diabetes
  • cancer
  • Alzheimer's
  • cardiovascular disease
  • Asthma 

Some disease can lead to another

For instance 

Hiv can lead to Cancer

Diabetes can increase the risk of coronary heart disease. 

Communicable diseases

Contact - conjunctivitis 

aerosol - tuberculosis

body fluids - Hiv

water - cholera

insects - malaria

contaminated food - food poisoning

Types of Diseases

Hiv (Human immunodeficiency virus)  - attacks white blood cells and reduces the ability to fight diseases: Can be prevented by using condoms during sex, needle exchange program, screening of donated blood.  

Malaria (It is caused by a parasite spread by mosquitos)  - causes high fever, headache, nausea, vomiting and sweating  It can be prevented by vaccinations, covering arms and legs, tablets and mosquito nets.  

Ash dieback (It is caused by a fungus) - causes leaf decay: burning spores on the trees, get rid of the tree infected.

Chlamydia (caused by bacterial infection) - causes infertility in adults, pneumonia. It can be prevented by using a condom or be cured by antibodies
