Hazan and Shaver wanted to see if there was a relationship between attachment type and later experiences in romantic relationships. The researchers placed a 'Love Quiz' in a local newspaper ad analysed the replies of the 620 adults who responded. Their ages ranged from 14-82 years. (Later they also did the study using 108 students.) They were given descriptions of relationships and asked to indicate how well or poorly each description corresponded to how they felt in romantic relationships. They also answered a variety of specific questions about their their romantic experiences and their relationship with their parents (attachment type).
