Haemoglobin
Oxygen is carried around the body by Haemoglobin
- Large protein with a quaternary structure
- Four polypeptide chains
- Each one has a haem group which contains an iron ion- gives red colour
- High affinity for oxygen-each molecule can carry 4 oxygen molecules
- Oxygen joins to create oxyhaemoglobin- reversible reaction
