Ionisation Energy Decreases Down The Group
Each element has 1 extra electron shell as you go down, so therefore there is alot of shielding that happens. This then results in a lower ionisation energy.
Group 2 Reacts With Water,Oxygen and Chlorine
Water forms HYDROXIDES
Oxygen forms CHARACTERISTIC FLAME COLOURS
Chlorine forms solid CHLORIDES
The oxides and hydroxides are BASES, and therefore form alkali solutions and neutralise acids.
Solubility Trends are Complicated
Single charged ANIONS (OH-)
Means solubility increases as you go DOWN the group
Double charged ANIONS (SO4 2-)
Means solubility increases as you go UP the group
Thermal Stability
- ANIONS…
