Reasons for Failure
- Womens suffrage bill failed in 1909 due to a majority of MPs voting against it
- Liberals and conservatives divided over what type of vote it should be, private member bill not advancing past its second reading
- Herbet Asquith, PM also constantly blocked attempts at reform, attacked on a goalf course in scotland
- However some in government were sympathetic to the vote, bill carried by 35 votes to a second reading
- Also governments refusal only made women more detirmined, scaling up of militancy
