GOD AS CREATOR

1. THE WAY THE BIBLE PRESENTS GOD AS INVOLVED IN HIS CREATION
 - Within the Judaeo-Christian tradition there are a number of key things that are means when God is described as Creator;

  • God causes everything in the universe to exist
  • God is responsible for the universe coming into existence and existing every moment
  • God is responsible for everything which exists within the universe

- These ideas all derive from the Bible
- The image of God walking through the Garden of Eden is very human like and gives God anthropormorphic qualities

2. THE IMAGE OF GOD AS A CRAFTSMAN
- Job 38: God being described as the designer who laid the very foudations of the earth, decided its dimensions etc.
- Also pictured as in control of the sun and moon {rejected in modern times}
- Genesis 2: God making Adam from dust is likened to a potter shaping clay, this is yet another human like image of God {anthropormorphic}

3. OMNIPOTENCE, OMNISCIENCE AND OMIPRESENCE

1. OMNIPOTENCE
"all-powerful"
-
Omnipotebce us a quality of God, the creator and tells people about the limitless nature of God's power.
- Depicted clearly in Genesis 1:1-2 where God is pictured creating the world and controlling the chaos in the waters
- Also in laying down the foundations of the earth in Job 38
" Have you commanded the morning since your days began?"
- Within the Bible the greatness of God's power is compared with the power of human beings: "Have you an arm like God?" {Job 40}
- Also telling as that God's power is present
