The perception formed by an individual of their own ability to suceed during performance is the major factor that determines both participation and persistence in the task and the ultimate acheivement of an overall aim.

Self-esteem is enhanced by a positive self-perception and in turn this would encourage a person to commit to an active and healty lifestyle.

Definition - "A standard of excellence that the individual trying to accomplish"

Setting targets improves performance because:

  • Allows targets to be met
  • Builds confidence
  • Provides motivation
  • Lowers arousal

c) short term (daily/weekly)

Activity based

a) process (technique)
