About
Glycolysis means the splitting of glucose
Glycolysis occurs in the cytoplasm in side the cell.
Process
ATP is hydrolysed to provide a phosphoryl group to the glucose molecule. This becomes hexose monophosphate. The addition of the phosoryl group "activates" the glucose molecule and disallows it from leaving the cell
