- 1915 Clyeside engineers began a strike over pay that would last until 1916
- Meanwhile property owners used influx of workers to increase the rents of industrial workers
- Housewives protested by refusing to pay rents, became the Glasgow Rent Strike
- Led by Mary Barbour
- Helen Crawford and Agnes Dollan also led the Glasgow Womens Housing Associaition
- Working Class men soon joined the strike
