Treaty of Versailles
A peace treaty that brought WW1 to an end. When Germany were defeated in WW1, in 1919 the victorious powers (US, GB, France, other allied states) imposed territorial, military, and economic provisions on defeated Germany.
LAMB
Land
-Lost 13% of land incl. land that had important raw materials such as coal, oil etc.
- Kept Rhineland but had to stay demilitarised
- West Prussia and Posen (Polish Corridor) lost to Poland
-Saarland taken by League of Nations for 15 years & colonies were handed to L of Nations who gave them to Britain and France to run
This all meant that Germany would lose out on sales of materials to other countries due to the lack they now had of it & didnt have it for their own use either.
Army (Military Restrictions)
- German army reduced to 100,000
- Navy cut to 15,000 sailors & only 6 battleships
- Not allowed submarines, tanks or air force
Money (Reparations)
- Most money paid by Germany would go to France and Belgium
- At Versailles no sum was fixed but in 1921 was fixed at £6600 million
