INSIDE THE EARTH
Inner Core
- 5100km down from ground level to the very center of Earth
- a solid, over 5000 degrees
- we know its solid through tracking Earthquakes
Outer Core
- 2,900km down from ground level and ends where the Inner Core starts
- 9.9-12.2 grams in density
- made of molten IRON AND NICKEL
- between 4000 and 5000 degrees in temperature
Lower Mantle
- biggest section within Earth
- from 700km down to 2900 (where it meets the Outer Core)
- nearest to Outer Core is called Lower Mantle
- Lower Mantle is solid rock called Peridot, 5gram density
Asthenosphere
- highest part of the Mantle
- partially molten rock, partially Peridot
- between 900 and 1600 degrees
Lithosphere
- upper part of the Earth, from top of Mantle to highest mountain
- a part of the Earths crust
- contains the CONTINENTAL CRUST and OCEANIC CRUST
