Desertification- where land is gradually turned into a desert   occurs mostly on cologically fragile borders of existing deserts 

result of both natural and human events, affects both poor and rich, threatens one bilion ppl in areas at risk

slight chnages in temp n rainfall make these areas even more prone to over cultivation,overgrazing or the strippin of vegetation for fuel wood
