GE transfers genes between organisms

Basic idea is to transfer gene from genome of a organism to the genome of another.Organism recieving gene recieves new useful characteristics.e.g.

• Gene for the human insuin ptotien has been inserted into bacteria.Bacteria grows in large numbers to produce insulin for treatment of diabetes.
• A gene that helps fish survive in cold water is inserted into tomato plants to help survive at low temp.

1)useful gene is isolated (cut) from organisms genome using enzymes. Replicated to produce lots of coppies.

2) each copy is inserted inro a vector (usurally virus or bacteria plasmid)depending on type of organism gene is being transfered.

3)Vectors are mixed with other cells e.g. bacteria. The idea is the vectors will be taken up by the cells, which…
