Historically women could not vote and became very important to win over by the main parties they began to be able to. Labour has used all women's shortlist and the pink minibus to target women and the conservatives have used the A list.

Historical reasons for the gender gap between labour and conservatives

The traditional view - stayed at home and didn't work therefore were not exposed to dangerous and horrid working conditions and if they did work they worked in well kept tidy offices they had a greater commitment to family values and traditional nd religion they were cautious and often followed their husbands in their voting pattern.
