GCSE Statistics - Standard Deviation

Standard deviation shows how spread about the data is about the mean.

Example:

Here's a set of data, for which I will calculate the standard deviation:

   Here are the heights of 5 Irish leprechauns:

   500cm, 650mm, 430mm, 410mm, 560mm.

Step 1: Firstly, find the mean:

  • 500+650+430+410+560 = 2550mm 
  • 2550 ÷ 5 = 510 
  • The mean is 510mm.

not that useful when your calculations are wrong mate, you divided 2550 by 6 instead of 5 :L

Damn, I was half asleep when I made this, I never realised that! Going to have to change it all now! :L  

EDIT It's correct now, can't believe I made such a stupid mistake! Anyway, the calculations are right now! :)

the 500 cm should be mm, either that or the addition is wrong
