Who was Gandhi?

Gandhi was a Hindu living in India during the British Raj. He belived what Britain were doing was wrong. He began to organise non-violent (peaceful) protests in which he and his followers got hurt. One of the most famous protests is the Salt March.

Why did he use peaceful protests?

Peaceful protests were very effective and it is believed to be the rreason India gained independence. The protests worked most of the time.
