YEAST is a single-celled FUNGUS
YEAST is a microorganism. A yeast cell has:
- Nucleus
- Cytoplasm
- Vacuole
- Cell Membrane
- Cell Wall
YEAST can respire with or without oxygen.
Equation for anaerobic respiration of glucose by yeast (i.e. FERMENTATION):
GLUCOSE --> ETHANOL + CARBON DIOXIDE + ENERGY
Equation for aerobic respiration of glucose by yeast (producing more energy that yeast needs to grow and reproduce):
GLUCOSE + OXYGEN --> CARBON DIOXIDE + WATER + ENERGY
