Functionalism - Crime Statistics

Functionalism

Functionalist sociologists take a relatively uncritical view of the data from these statistics and use them to develop theories to explain the patterns found in the statistics. Early functionalists like DURKHEIM (1938) used them to measure suicide rates - a form of deviance - between societies and groups and developed theories about suicide.
