The perfect tense is used to describe something that happened in the past, an action that is completely finished.

The present tense of avoir + the past participle of the main verb

  • Verbs ending in -er: take off the -er and add -é (Eg: parlé)
  • Verbs ending in -ir: take off the -ir and add -i
