Freiburg
A city within the european union in the south of Germany.
Which is attempting to manage traffic in a sustainable way.
Has 20,000 residents. Problem = Traffic congestion in narrow city streets.
Solutions
From 1971 - Freiburg started to be pedestrianised.
In 1972- It decided to retain its trams ; something that other german countries were deciding to scrap. They planned a network for cyclists.
From 1983- New tram routes were opened, this encouraged people to leave their cars at home.
In the mid 1980's- A pass was provided which provided cheap public transport for the whole city. Within the first year, the number of daily trips in freiburg and…
