Plot Summary

Victor and Elizabeth land and reach the inn that they will be staying in for the night. Victor is clearly nervous and Elizabeth asks him what is wrong. He responds by telling her not to worry “but this night is dreadful.” Anticipating the Creature’s arrival, he begs Elizabeth to go to their room while he waits for the Creature as he doesn’t want her to be scared or caught in the conflict. He hears a scream from their room, and then another. When he runs to the room he finds that Elizabeth is dead on the bed. He passes out. Upon awakening he goes to see Elizabeth’s body and embraces her. He sees the Creature outside the window and shoots at him. This draws a crowd and they search for the him. Upon returning in vain Victor passes out again. As he is weeping over Elizabeth he remembers his father and Ernest may be in danger so head quickly to Geneva. When he tells Alphonse about Elizabeth’s death Alphonse collapses and dies a few days later. Victor goes mad at this point for several months is in solitary confinement. He wakes up and tells a magistrate what happened. When the Magistrate says that it is unlikely he will be able to do anything due to the Creature’s power Victor accuses him of doubting his tale and storms off.
