Types of Formulae:

  • Empirical formula: is the simplest whole number ratio of the number of atoms of each elements in a compound.
  • Molecular formula: the actual number of atoms of each elements present in a compound
  • General formula: the simplest algebraic formula to represent any memeber of a homologous series
  • Structural formula: it shows how atoms are arranged in a molecule
  • Displayed formula: gives the most accurate representation of the molecule, showing all the atoms and
