  • A meander is a bend in the river. The thalweg (fastest flowing water) is on the outside of the bend of a meander because the river channel is deeper. This means there is less friction to slow the water down. This means that more erosion will be taking place on the outer bend, forming river cliffs.
  • The current is slower on the inside bend
