Forces on the Road

HideShow resource information

If a car travels at constant velocity its resultant force is zero. This is because the engine force is balanced by the resistive forces.

Factors affecting stopping distance:

  • Tiredness
  • Alcohol/drugs
  • Distractions e.g. mobile phones
  • High speed
  • Road conditions
  • Vehicle maintenance

Factors affecting breaking force:

  • The mass of the vehicle
  • The speed of the vehicle
