The Fluid Mosaic Model
In 1972 Singer and Nicholson proposed a model that explained how substances could pass in and out of the cell membranes, explaining how cell membranes could be more dynamic and interact with the cell's envrionment.This model involved the membranes being composed of a phospholipid bilayer. The hydrophilic heads interacting with water in the cytoplasm and the cell and the hydrophobic tails repelling water.
