FITNESS TESTING

WHY DO WE FITNESS TEST?

Strengths/Weaknesses: Fitness tests allow an athlete to identify their strengths/ weaknesses.

E.g. Poor speed could be a reason why you can't dribble well in football.

Training Requirements: Results inform athlete with components to focus on most in future training and improve.

Starting level and progress: Monitor improvement, starting leavel to train and improve.

Goal setting: Makes training focused and effective, something to work towards.

Tedium(boredom): Builds variety into the training by changing the training method.

LIMITATIONS OF FITNESS TESTING:

Tests arent often sport specific... The rular drop test never happens in sport.

Tests do not replicate actual sporting movement...Bleep Test

They do not replicate the competitive conditions in sport.

Reliability of the tests can be questioned...because human errors can occur, accidentally clicking stopwatch too early/late.

FITNESS TESTS:

The Illinois Agility test:

Equipment: 8 cones(10mx5 with 4 in middle), measuring tape, stopwatch

Procedure: Performer starts face down on the floor, runs around the cones and timed.

The Stork Blance Test:

Equipment: Stopwatch

Procedure: Start balanced on two feet with hands on hips, one leg lifted so toes touching insisde of standing knee.
